Manmohan Singh to lay the foundation on projects today

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is scheduled to visit upper Assam, February 19 to lay the foundation of three projects in Jorhat, Sivasagar and Tinsukia. In Jorhat, Singh will lay the foundation of National Institute of Design which will be the second of its kind in India after Ahmedabad. In Sivasagar, Singh will lay the foundation of the proposed Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology the same day. The administration has allotted 300 bighas in the Palasani area, 5 km far from Sivasagar town, for the project.

The Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology, Sivasagar, will also be the second such institute in the country next to the one at Rae Bareli in Uttar Pradesh. The Centre is going to set up the institute under the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology Act 2007. It will be co-promoted as an energy domain specific place by six leading oil public sector units like ONGC, IOCL, OIL, Gail, BPCL and HPCL. The prime objective of the institute is to provide world class education, training and research to roll out efficient human resource to meet the growing requirement of the petroleum and energy sector.

Before winding up his visit, the Prime Minister will visit Tinsukia to lay the foundation of a bridge on the Brahmaputra connecting Dholaghat with Sadiaghat
