Manmohan reviews flagship programmes in Assam

The Prime Minister was apprised about the progress made by the state in its revenue, fiscal and primary surpluses from 2005-06 onwards

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today reviewed the progress of some flagship programmes with Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, members of his cabinet and senior officials of the state at Raj Bhavan here during his two-day visit to the state.The Prime Minister was apprised about the progress made by the state in its revenue, fiscal and primary surpluses from 2005-06 onwards, official sources said.

In the meeting, Assam had availed a debt waiver of Rs. 422 crore and debt relief of Rs. 661 crore, the sources said.

The status of the agricultural sector of the state was also highlighted, they said.

The Prime Minister took a detailed review of the implementation of National Rural Health Mission (NRHM), Sarva Siksa Abhiyan (SSA), Prime Minister's Gram Sarak Yojana (PMGSY), Rajiv Gandhi Gramin Vidyutikaran Yojana (RGGVY), Indira Awas Yojana (IAY), Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) and Multi Sectoral Development Project (MSDP) in the state.

He was also apprised about the continuing menace of floods and erosion in Assam which had caused losses of more than Rs. 10,000 crore and 8,000 hectares of land every year, the sources added
