Job seekers spit fire after ITBP mess, 15 fall dead

Sheer mismanagement of a recruitment drive by the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) authorities on Tuesday led to large-scale arson and rioting in Bareilly by angry job seekers and, later, at least 15 of them lost their lives when they fell from the rooftops of two speeding trains in Shahjahanpur and Hardoi.

Angry over the deaths, mobs of youth torched railway property at Ferozpur railway station, including an AC coach of Jammu Tawi Express. The small police and Railway Protection Force were finding it difficult to control the mob of thousands.

The ITBP which had planned recruitment of tradesmen had directed the job-seekers from 11 states to reach its UP and Uttaranchal headquarters in Bareilly. Youths in large number started arriving Monday evening and Tuesday morning, their numbers swelled to more than one lakh, catching the ITBP authorities unprepared
