Department of Veterinary Surgery & Radiology starts National Level Training

Department of Surgery and Radiology, GADVASU has started a national level advanced refresher training course on "Diagnostic and Surgical procedures in Veterinary Patients" under the aegis of Center of Advanced Faculty Training(CAFT), ICAR. Dr N.S. Saini, Director CAFT and Professor-cum-Head of the Department informed that the Centre of Advanced Faculty Training which earlier was known as Centre of Advanced Studies was established in the department in the year 1994. Till date the department has conducted 22 training courses on various topics and over 240 Surgeons/Clinicians from various State Veterinary Universities/ State Agricultural Universities/ICAR Institutes have been trained.

The training was inaugurated by Dr. P.D. Juyal, Registrar of the University who was the Chief Guest of the occasion. He appreciated the work done by the department and hoped that this work will be continued in future also. Dr. S.S. Singh, Dean, College of Veterinary Sciences was the Guest of Honour. Dr. Singh, a surgeon himself and a former head of Surgery Department, informed that a specialized diagnostic center has been approved for the university and it will have state of art imaging facilities like Color Doppler, computerized radiography, CT scan/MRI which will cater to the patients from all over North India. He advised the participants to learn atleast some of the techniques available here and then start those techniques at their institutes so that there should be positive impact of the training.

According to Dr Saini a total of 34 applications were received from all over India for this training course out of which 25 candidates were selected who represented 11 states. The participants will be trained on ultrasonographic and ultrasound guided biopsy procedures for small and large animal patients. Lectures on radiography, computerized radiography, endoscopy, echocardiography, laparoscopy, MRI, ultrasonography, ultrasound guided biopsy and clinical biochemistry will be delivered. Demonstrations for various ultrasonographic procedures for large and small animal patients and ultrasound guided biopsy for various abdominal organs in small animals will be conducted.

Guest faculty has been invited to deliver lectures on various topics like Application of CT scan and MRI in Veterinary Patients, management of Gastric Dilatation and Volvulus Syndrome in dogs etc.

Dr J. Mohindroo Associate Professor Veterinary Surgery & Radiology, informed that a compendium of lectures by the experts has been compiled for the ready reference of the participants. Dr. Navdeep Singh, Associate Professor proposed the vote of thanks.
