Delhi: Rahul Gandhi saves life of man hit by taxi

New Delhi, February 23, 2011

Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi turned rescuer for a road accident victim in the Capital on Tuesday.

Rahul extended a helping hand to 43-year-old Kale Ram, who was hit by a taxi on Krishna Menon Marg on Tuesday afternoon.

Kale Ram, a resident of Khichripur in east Delhi, was seriously injured when a taxi rammed his motorbike.

Rahul was passing by the road a few metres from the residence of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee when he saw Kale Ram profusely bleeding.

Eye-witnesses said Gandhi immediately came out of his car and rushed the patient to Ram Manohar Lohia hospital.

\"Kale Ram has suffered serious injuries on his shoulders, hands and legs. He was brought to the hospital on time,\" a doctor from the hospital said.

The police have arrested the driver and impounded the taxi.
