BSE Sensex rises 1 pct; Bharti Airtel seesaws

BANGALORE

– The BSE Sensex rose more than 1 percent early on Wednesday amid firmer Asian markets as bargain hunting kicked in a day after the main index notched up its lowest close in five months.

Shares in Bharti Airtel fell as much as 3.3 percent after India\'s top mobile phone carrier posted a bigger-than-expected fall in quarterly profit, but then turned positive and climbed 1 percent.

The main 30-share BSE index was trading 1 percent up at 18,203.03 points by 0348 GMT, with 27 of the components gaining.

The 50-share NSE index was up 0.9 percent at 5,467.25
