The “Vasnat Panchami Festival” was celebrated by the students of Everest Pb. Sr. Sec. School,

Ludhiana, 07th Feb. 2011.

The "Vasnat Panchami Festival" was celebrated by the students of Everest Pb. Sr. Sec. School, Moti Nagar, Ludhiana, on 07th Feb. 2011. Sh. Rajinder Sharma, President, Association of the PSEB Affiliated Schools, Punjab (Regd.) was the Chief Guest on this occasion. A fancy dress competition was also organised on this occasion.

The tiny tots were well dressed up in yellow colour dresses. The children presented a colour full eye catching programme of song & dance. All the students were seen over joyed.

Speaking on the occasion Mr. Rajinder Sharma told the students about the importance of the day. He said that Vasant Panchami is a Hindu festival celebrating Saraswati, the goddess of knowledge, music and art. It is celebrated every year on the fifth day of the Indian month Magh (January-February), the first day of spring. He further said that yellow color has great significance, people wear yellow clothes, offer yellow flowers in worship and put a yellow, turmeric tilak on their forehead. They visit temples and offer prayers to various gods.

Smt. Asha Sharma, Coordinator, IGNOU, NIOS & POS distributed Prizes and sweets among the tiny-tots. She said that festival is celebrated with full vivacity and festivity to mark the end of the winters. It is one of the first festivals of the Year and is celebrated all over India.

Smt. Shashi Sharma, In-Charge Cultural Activities, also explain the importance of the day to the students. She said that he yellow flowers of mustard crop covers the entire field in such a way that it seems as if gold is spread over the land glittering with the rays of the sun.
