TRAINING ON VALUE ADDITION OF AGRICULTURAL PRODUCE FOR PROGRESSIVE FARMERS

LUDHIANA, NOVEMBER 26:-----



A training programme on \'Value addition of agricultural produce\' was organized jointly by PAU College of Agricultural Engineering and Technology and the Indian Institute of Crop Processing Technology, Ministry of Food Processing Industries (IICPT), New Delhi for progressive farmers. Twenty five farmers participated in the training. The Dean of the College, Dr. P.P.S.Lubana said that processing and value addition were important in view of huge post harvest losses of perishable commodities. The farmers profitability can improve through undertaking proper post harvest handling and value addition of the produce, he said. The Course Coordinators, Dr. Venkatachalapathy Natrajan of IICPT and Dr. Satish Kumar Gupta, PAU said that the participants were provided useful tips on the value addition of fruits and vegetables, processing of turmeric and herbal plants at cottage level. The value addition of the produce through packaging and grading was also explained. Information was also shared by experts on agro-industrial complexes. The participants were shown around various laboratories including Punjab Horticultural Post Harvest Technology Center (PHPTC), Central Institute of Post Harvest Engineering and Technology (CIPHET), PAU apiary, Raikot Agro Processing Complex, etc. for their practical exposure. The experts interacted with participants and cleared their queries.
