Museum for Indian cinema to come up in Mumbai by 2013

A museum covering all aspects of films right from costumes, scripts, set designs, monographs and even film magazines will come up in Mumbai as part of the 100 year celebrations of Indian cinema, an official said today.

\"The project will cost Rs110-crore and it will be inaugurated in 2013 to commemorate 100 years of Indian cinema which began with Dadasaheb Phalke\'s epic film Raja Harischandra in 1913,\" Films Divisions director Kuldeep Sinha told reporters on the sidelines of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Panaji.

Sinha said the webcast of the films made during the last six decades will soon be done by the division which will enable online purchases of the films and documentaries.

\"The films division has produced over 8000 films during the last 60 years and about 5000 films will be available for online purchase and downloads,\" he said.

Sinha said the division has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with National Films Division Corporation (NFDC) to market its documentaries.

\"Through the MoU, NFDC has given all the rights to market the films all over the world on a revenue sharing basis,\" he said.

Sinha said an announcement regarding the waiver of one per cent rental being charged at present from cinema owners to screen their films at the cinema halls is round the corner.
