HORTICULTURAL EXPERTS HOLD INTERFACE WITH FARM MACHINERY MANUFACTURERS AT PAU

LUDHIANA, NOVEMBER 30:



A meeting of 'Punjab State Agricultural Implements Manufacturers Association' was organized at the College of Agricultural Engineering and Technology (COA&E), PAU by the Punjab Chapter of Indian Society of Agricultural Engineers (ISAE) under the aegis of National Horticulture Board (NHB). Mr. Bijay Kumar, Managing Director, NHB, Gurgaon, was the chief guest. He discussed about the problems and challenges in the marketing of fruits and vegetables and emphasized on the need for machinery to handle the produce. He said that the NHB has programmes wherein funds for the research and development of machinery for horticulture, vegetable and floriculture could be provided. The meeting involved the participation of about 50 manufacturers.



Presiding over the event, Dr S.S. Gosal, Director of Research, PAU, laid stress on the need to develop the machinery for harvesting and peeling of green peas. He said that PAU has developed improved varieties of horticultural crops which are suitable for processing.



Dr M.S. Gill, Director of Extension Education, PAU, said that the University holds trainings in need-based areas and assured the officials of NHB for the arrangements of training and exhibition of horticulture machinery for the farmers hailing from different parts of the country at PAU.



Speaking on this occasion, Dr PPS Lubana, Dean, COA&E, stated that the PAU experts would provide the technical know-how for the mechanization of horticulture and vegetables. Dr CJS Pannu, Coordinator of Research (Engineering), COA&E, and Chairman of Punjab Chapter of ISAE, presented an overview of the achievements made pertaining to the mechanization of horticultural crops.



Mr. Baldev Singh, President, All India Agriculture Implements Manufacturers Association, recommended the manufacturers present on the occasion to undertake the development of low cost machinery for the mechanization of crops.



Earlier, Mr. Karnail Singh, President of Punjab State Agriculture Implements Manufacturers Association welcomed the participants. Mr. N.C.Mistrey, Additional Managing Director, Dr. P.K.Singh, Deputy Director, Mr. J. B. Singh, Mr. S.S.Nijjar from NHB and Dr S.K.Chanana, Ex-Head, Department of Horticulture of PAU and advisor to NHB also participated in the meeting. Dr Pannu proposed the vote of thanks.
