GERMAN FARMERS VISIT PAU

LUDHIANA, NOVEMBER 23 :-



A 23-member agricultural group of the farmers from Germany visited the Punjab Agricultural University, today. They went around the Crop Museum of Department of Plant Breeding and Research Hall of Farm Machinery and Power Engineering, College of Agricultural Engineering and Technology where they were shown the agricultural equipments developed by the department.



They also visited the Vegetable Research Farm where Dr D.S. Cheema, Head, Department of Vegetable Crops, explained them about the research achievements and the technologies adopted to raise new varieties. Interacting with the visitors, Dr Cheema divulged that the department has developed 111 varieties out of which 29 varieties have been released at the national level. He also explained about the nutritional security and the concept of kitchen garden.





The German farmers were shown around the PAU bee farm, and Museum of Rural Life of Punjab where they witnessed State's cultural heritage and social life.



Ms. Marlen Mann, the spokesperson of the group of the farmers from Germany, said that they were impressed with the developmental programmes of PAU and their contribution towards the agrarian prosperity and food security of the nation. The main purpose of their visit to PAU was to gain know how about the way Indian farmers produce, what problems they face and about the transfer of agricultural technologies.
