GADVASU Surgeon attends World Buiatrics Congress

Dr. Ashwani Kumar, Assistant Professor, Department of Veterinary Surgery and Radiology, GADVASU attended and presented research paper entitled "Productive and reproductive performance following diaphragmatic herniorrhaphy in buffaloes (B. bubalis): A long term study" during 26th World Buiatrics Congress in Santiago, Chile. Dr. Ashwani Kumar had been awarded World Buiatrics Association (WBA) Scholarship for attending the above said congress. He had also been awarded 'International Travel grant' by the Department of Science and Technology, New Delhi for participation in the congress. Dr. Ashwani Kumar already has been awarded, Gold medals for best papers in 2005, 2006 and 2009 and appreciation certificate award (2007) for his research work.

Dr. Narinder Singh Saini, Professor-cum-Head, Department of Veterinary surgery and Radiology said that diaphragmatic hernia is a common condition of buffalo in India. Department of Surgery and Radiology has done tremendous work on the diagnosis and surgical management of diaphragmatic hernia. Recently, the department has introduced ultrasonography for the diagnosis of diaphragmatic hernia which is first report of its kind worldwide and is an accurate, non-invasive and safe technique.

The World Buiatrics congress is held once in two years and includes all the aspects of farm animal health management, disease diagnosis and treatment. This congress was attended by 1606 delegates from 59 countries. During this congress, the executive committee of the association has declared India as an affiliated member of the World Association of Buiatrics. Till date there are only 41 countries including USA, UK, Canada, Australia, Denmark, France, Germany etc. which are affiliated members of the World Association of Buiatrics. Dr. Simrat Sagar Singh, Dean College of Veterinary Sciences, GADVASU said that this is an honour to the scientific community of the country who have made significant contributions internationally in the field of farm animal disease diagnosis and management. Further Dr. Singh, congratulated Dr. Ashwani Kumar for attending and presenting research paper at the World Buiatrics Congress.
