DELEGATION FROM CHINA ON A VISIT TO PAU, MoU BETWEEN HAAFS AND PAU INKED

LUDHIANA, NOVEMBER 23:-----



An eight member delegation of Hebei Academy of Agriculture and Forestry Sciences (HAAFS), led by Dr. Wang Huijun, the President, visited Punjab Agricultural University. They held an interactive meeting with Dr. Manjit Singh Kang, Vice-Chancellor, PAU on various facets of agriculture and signed a memorandum of understanding for collaboration in diverse fields including crop biotechnology, genetics and molecular breeding, efficient utilization of water resources, efficient crop cultivation, ecological agriculture, environment and food safety, plant pathology and disease control and rural economics and development. The fields of interest, plan of operation, conditions for scientific exchange, intellectual property right, publications, etc. were discussed between the two organizations. The accord valid for five years was signed by Dr. Wang Huijun on behalf of HAAFS and Dr. Manjit Singh Kang, Vice-Chancellor, on behalf of PAU in the presence of Dr. Lizhi-Hong, Professor and Vice-Director, Institute of Agricultural Information and Economic, HAAFS and Dr. R.K.Mahey, Registrar, PAU.

Dr. Huijun said that the working together in mutually beneficial areas will lead to better agriculture. Dr. Kang said that working in collaboration is always a win win situation for the participating organisations. He said that PAU has already signed MoUs with a number of international bodies. Dr. Kang said that he had some Chinese students working with him for their doctorate in the US.



The delegation, yesterday, visited the Crop Museum of Department of Plant Breeding and Genetics, Research Hall of Farm Machinery and Power Engineering, Museum of Social History of Punjab and held discussion with the faculty of Department of Vegetable Crops. Dr. Jagtar Singh Dhiman, Additional Director of Communication, apprised them about the organizational set up, research programmes, transfer of technology system of the University in which the members showed keen interest. The delegation members later visited the farm of a Progressive grower of Punjab. Dr. Kang presented the delegation members with brochures of information about PAU.
