China poised for golden table tennis sweep
GUANGZHOU: China is poised to sweep of all seven table tennis gold medals at the Asian Games after victories on Saturday for both their men and women in the singles semi-finals.
China have already won the men\'s and women\'s team events as well as the men\'s, women\'s and mixed doubles.
In the women\'s semis, Li Xiaoxia crushed South Korea\'s Kim Kyung-Ah 11-8, 11-7, 11-5, 11-5 and will meet Chinese teammate Guo Yue in the final after Guo mounted a stirring comeback to beat Japan\'s Ai Fukuhara.
Guo, trailing by three games to one, battled back to secure a 5-11, 10-12, 11-8, 9-11, 11-9, 11-8, 11-8 win.
In the men\'s singles, Ma Long was relentless as he romped to a straightforward victory over South Korea\'s Joo Sae-Hyuk 11-4, 11-7, 11-5, 11-9.
He now meets fellow Chinese Wang Hao who had a comfortable 12-10, 11-4, 11-4, 11-5 win over Japan\'s Jun Mizutani
Li said she was happy with her performance.
\"I had to try my best to stay calm and patient while playing against her. I was ready to play long rallies to win points. I tried my best to stay positive and told myself always to be patient. So a good mindset was key to winning.\"
Men\'s finalist Ma said: \"I think I performed well today and was patient enough. After the first two games, I felt that it would be a tough match, so I needed to be patient.\"
The finals are later on Saturday.
