BTech students booked for junior\'s death

GHAZIABAD: Four second and third year students of an engineering college here have been booked for allegedly causing the death of a first-year BTech student. Ghaziabad senior superintendent of police Raghuvir Lal said: \"The boy\'s father, a manager in a local firm, has filed a case under Section 304A of the Indian Penal Code.\"

According to police sources, 21-year-old Akshay Gaur of Vasundhra was asked by his seniors — Abdul Rizwi, Pawan Chowdhary, Aditya Kumar and Mukul — to accompany them on the morning of November 18 when he was going to the college.

\"They all boarded a bus for Masuri area, and from there an auto to the Upper Ganga Canal. They then walked to the bridge on the canal, which is not far from the main road,\" said Masuri police station in-charge Pramod Kumar.

Gaur\'s friends began bathing close to the bank of the canal, said police. Gaur, who was a swimmer, walked to the middle of the bridge on the canal. \"From there, he told his seniors that he was going to dive in the deep water. Even as they reportedly tried to deter him, he dived into the strong current. His body was quickly swept away by the water,\" said Kumar
