ARTISTS, LITERATEURS AND SINGERS CAN HELP PROMOTE PEACE IN THE REGION: DR. KANG

LUDHIANA, NOVEMBER 23:-----



Ustad Khadim Hussain Warsi, the Chief Sewadar of Waris Shah Darbar, Jandiala Sher Khan, Pakistan and Jenab Husnain Akbar enthralled the huge gathering of students, faculty members, employees and guests in the jam packed Pal Auditorium with their rendition \'Heer\'. Jenab Amzad Ali produced captivating music with his flute. The trio is internationally renowned as heer singers. They sang \'hazi lok makke wal jawan, appan jana takhat hazare\', \'akh ranjheya bha kee bani teri, desh apna chhdd sudhar nahin\' and other sufi kalams of Waris Shah and Hazarat Sultan Bahoo. They drew huge appreciation by clapping from the audience when they produced a long hoook.



Dr. Manjit Singh Kang, Vice-Chancellor, PAU, who presided over said that although Punjab underwent a division yet the legendary Heer Ranjha, Sassi Punnu, Mirza Sahiba and the like always keep both Punjabs together. Dr. Kang said that PAU has its roots in Layallpur (now Faislabad) where agricultural institute contributed towards removing hunger from the world, a century ago. He honoured the three artists by presenting floral bouquets and shawls.



Dr. P.P.S.Lubana, Director Students Welfare in his welcome remarks said that the rich Punjabi culture and heritage on both sides of the border act as a binding force. He suggested the youngsters to learn from our rich culture and heritage. The Additional Director of Communication, Dr. Jagtar Singh Dhiman said that PAU has a tradition of organizing programmes promoting culture, art, heritage and values. He told that the English translation of Heer of Waris Shah was done by Principal Sant Singh Sekhon and was published at PAU. Mr. Gurbhajan Gill said that the effort to bring eminent artists to PAU will continue as it inspires students. The Cultural Coordinator, Dr. Nirmal Singh Jaura introduced the artists and said that they are well respected globally by music enthusiasts.



Present on the occasion, were the Deans, Directors, Officers of the University besides Dr. S.S.Gill, Dr. Amarjit Singh Hayer, Mr. T.P.S.Sandhu, Mr. Kamaljit Shankar and Dr. Jaswant Singh of mobile library repute. Famous story writer, Mr. Gurdit Singh Kang was presented with a portrait of Waris Shah and a CD of their renditions by the Pakistani artists.
