SEMINAR ON "EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION SKILLS" AT GGNIMT

\"Half the world is composed of people who have something to say and can\'t, and the other half who have nothing to say and keep on saying it.\" , Said Dr. Y.P Sachdeva, HOD, Dept of Business Management, PAU while delivering a lecture on the topic \" Effective Communication Skills \" to the MBA and MCA students of GGN Institute of Management & Technology (GGNIMT) here today.

Dr. Sachdeva said that effective communication played a significant role in fulfilling the dreams and desires of individuals. It helped one to get where he wanted to be in his life. Elaborating it further , he said that effective communication equipped one with the ability to connect and build rapport with other people thereby enhancing the chances of success in business and personal relationships .

Dr Sachdeva informed the students that attentive and empathic listening is a key component of effective communication which , he said , is often overlooked by the people. He also said that people generally believed that effective communication was all about good speaking and people preferred to talk more because they liked to be heard ,understood, approved and appreciated.

Dr. Sachdeva guided the students to be good listeners first to become effective communicators. He highlighted the attributes such as aggressive observation, taking a second look at the first impression and talking less as the important prerequisites for effective listening. He also gave many anecdotes to clarify the topic.

The second part of the seminar focused on the presentation skills. Dr. Sachdeva said that everyone could deliver a speech but very few managed it to be highly effective. He discussed with the students the essential elements of a good presentation skill. He motivated the students to prepare thoroughly and stay relaxed during a speech. He also guided them to plan their body and hand positions during a presentation.

The session concluded with the question answer round where the students cleared all their doubts.

The Director of the Institute , Mr. Kuldip Singh, and Co-ordinator Prof. G.S Dua also graced the occasion with their presence . They thanked the guest for sharing valuable information with the students.
