GURDIT SINGH KANG AWARDED BABA BANDA SINGH BAHADAR AWARD

LUDHIANA, OCTOBER 15:-----



We should bow before our heroes who sacrificed their comforts so that we could live comfortably. The nations who forget their martyrs and the history get extinct. These expressions were made by nonagenarian S. Gurdit Singh Kang, an eminent writer, social worker and a protagonist of service to society, after receiving Baba Banda Singh Bahadar Award, today. Emphasizing the need to work for the welfare of others, S. Kang said \"One should leave the society in a better condition than what one had founded\". He thanked the organisers for recognizing his contributions for the welfare of humanity. S. Kang is the father of the PAU Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Manjit Singh Kang who was also present on the occasion.



The award was given by the Baba Banda Singh Bahadar International Foundation (BBSBIF) in a state level function organized at Janta Nagar, Gill Road, Ludhiana. Speaking on the occasion, the BBSBIF President, Mr. K.K.Bawa appreciated the zeal of S. Kang to serve others through writings and actions even at an age of 92 years. He said that the programme was organized on the eve of 340th birth anniversary of Baba Banda Singh Bahadar. Mr. Bawa said that a Chair in the name of Baba Banda Singh Bahadar be established in any Universities of Punjab, preferably PAU as Baba Banda Bahadar had contributed a great deal for the welfare of farming community. He also pleaded the central government to issue a commemorative postal stamp on Baba Banda Singh Bahadar.



People from different walks of life including S. Jagdev Singh Jassowal, Mr. Jasbir Singh former Minister, Mr. Malkit Singh Dakha, Dr. S.N.Sewak, Mr. Baljinderjit Singh Toor Jawaddi, Mr. Inderjit Singh Sidhu, Mr. Baldev Bawa and Bibi Kuldip Kaur also shared their views about the contributions made by Baba Banda Singh Bahadar. A number of individuals namely the NRI Harbant Singh Deol, Deep Sanghera, Pal Brar were recognized for their services in different areas with the presentation of mementos and shawls. Mr. Toor proposed vote of thanks to S. Kang and other participants.
