Google Instant - Google\'s new quest to be the supremo, instantly

Speed is a need, so thinks Google. In its quest to be the supremo in the search engine market Google launches its latest innovation, Google Instant. So now you can search as you type and as soon as you type you get your results. In terms of time it could be a net saving of 2-5 seconds per search typing.



According to Google, \"Our key technical insight was that people type slowly, but read quickly, typically taking 300 milliseconds between keystrokes, but only 30 milliseconds (a tenth of the time!) to glance at another part of the page. This means that you can scan a results page while you type.\"

Faster content

The biggest benefit is faster content. Without even finishing the search term you get the results. Now that could be a saving of 2-5 seconds per search. Is that really substantial? Let\'s say searching for pizzas in Delhi you type in 5 searches. Chances with this are you will in the 1st instance get the correct results else it is a saving of almost 20-30 seconds, which isn\'t really bad. Compare this with the way it worked earlier. It took approximately 9 seconds to enter a search term and in some cases even upto 30-90 seconds according to Google.



Quality of search

One of the biggest benefits of this the quality of predictability of results. Without even typing the entire term chances of you getting it right are pretty high.



India on Google Road map

India on Google road map does seem like a strong country considering most companies seem to think of India long after they have tested the American and European waters. Launched on September 9th in a few countries within a month Google Instant has come to India. Google Instant also powers other searches of Google such as Google Videos, Blogs, Books and more.



The Last Word

Interestingly Google says if everyone uses Google Instant globally they estimate this will save more than 3.5 billion seconds a day. That\'s 11 hours saved every second! What Google executives don\'t mention is that every second counts and in its quest to take on Microsoft. In a recent interview Google\'s Eric Schmidt said Microsoft\'s Bing, not Apple or Facebook, is the biggest rival Google has right now. Bing threatens the core of Google i.e. search. Google seems all set to redefine search like it has never been before. We are waiting for more action.
