CWG: Indian shooters begin gold haul

The shooters began India\'s quest for gold in the ongoing 19th Commonwealth Games on Tuesday with Abhinav Bindra and Gagan Narang shooting a Games record 1193 to win gold in the 10m Air Rifle Men\'s pairs events at the Dr Karni Singh Range here.



Minutes after they won the first gold for India, Anisa Sayeed and Rahi Sarnobat also set a Games record to win a gold in the 25m pistol women\'s pairs event. They shot 1156/1200 to pip the Aussie pair who had led them till the last series of shots.



In a nerve-wracking contest, the Indian women shooters, who were trailing the Australian pair, took a eight-point lead with 10 shots to go. In the final series of shooting, the Indians, trailing by one point took a 11-point lead and pushed Australia to the second place by a 10-point gap.India added a third medal from the shooting range as Deepak Sharma and Omkar Singh won the silver in the 50m pistol men\'s pairs event.



But it was Bindra and Narang who set the range on fire with some precision hitting. World record holder Gagan shot a spectacular sequence of 99, 100, 100, 99, 100, 100 to total a grand 598, while Beijing Olympic gold medallist Bindra\'s series read 100, 98 ,99, 100, 99, 99 for a total of 595 in the first shooting event of the 2010 Games.
