Anti Facebook Diaspora Launch in October, Source Code Released

Diaspora is upon us. Perhaps sometime in October, a new social network called Diaspora will go live on the World Wide Web. Perhaps, it won't be able to keep up the competition but who knows. They claim to be a major competitor to Facebook and in a lot of ways they seem like a kin too. They have just gone public with their code and are slated to get going come October.

Diaspora is a different kind of social network, or so the makers claim. According to the developers of this social network, it does something that Facebook has failed to do over the past duration of time and that is protecting the users' privacy. They claim that even now, the users' privacy is at great peril over at Facebook.

Over at Diaspora, this is the main thing that they are banking on. However, given the kind of usage that Facebook gets in recent times, users don't apparently seem particularly unhappy with the settings. Diaspora was started by a group of students from the University of New York. They were all Facebook users but were digressed at the privacy policy of Facebook.

While it claims to be something that Facebook needs to be, it apparently seems like Facebook is what its makers want it to be. They have something called Aspects. You can use it on the site to share updates with your network or share pictures. The color and feel all resemble that of Facebook. Users get to add friends, chat, and network and do anything you'd expect of a basic social network.

However, the Diaspora to be released next month may still have loopholes. The caution comes from the makers of the social network themselves, so use it at your own risk. If the fact that Facebook has found its once lost charisma among users again wasn't enough to mar its prospects, the warning from the developers ensures that now. Perhaps an earlier time, when Facebook was plagued with security breaches, would have been more opportune for the launch of Diaspora.
