India boss slams Modi

Board of Control for Cricket in India secretary Niranjan Srinivasan has hit out at suspended IPL boss Lalit Modi for giving unsatisfactory answers in the on-giong corruption case.

Modi has been suspended from his position as Indian Premier League chairman after allegations of financial irregularities.

Less than a week after Modi replied to the third show-cause notice, the secretary -in a six-page letter - said the reply was unacceptable, and he has handed the matter over to a disciplinary committee for further deliberation.

The charges relate to irregularities in the awarding of theatrical rights and commercial slots during the telecast of IPL 3 matches, and Mr Srinivasan said of the embattled former chairman\'s reply: \"I am prima facie not satisfied that sufficient cause has been shown by Mr Lalit K Modi to drop further proceedings.\"

On the charge surrounding the 80 million facilitation fee that was paid out as part of a renegotiated TV rights deal, Srinivasan said: \"Mr Lalit K Modi has not explained why the BCCI was made to practically guarantee payment by MSM Satellite (Singapore) to WSG Mauritius.

\"There is no explanation why such a contract should have been signed. The facts clearly point to the serious irregularities in the award of media rights.

He added: \"The BCCI didn\'t find some of Mr Modi\'s explanations satisfactory. As the secretary of the board, I have sent my report to the disciplinary committee. It will be up to them to decide now.\"

After the culmination of the third edition of the IPL, the board had issued its first show-cause notice accusing Modi of financial irregularities during the conduct of the league and of rigging bids for franchises.

The second was in relation to an email sent by England and Wales Cricket Board chairman Giles Clarke alleging that Modi had outlined plans for a rebel Twenty20 league in England.
