AHMEDABAD: Passengers aboard the Jet Airways flight from Mumbai to Bhuj were in for a pleasant surprise to find Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan as a co-passenger flying with his crew to this Gujarat district on the Indo-Pakistan border on Friday.

Secretary, Gujarat tourism, Vipul Mittra who went to Mumbai to receive Bachchan, brand ambassador for Gujarat , on his first round of shoots for a promotional film, offered to fly him on a chartered plane, which the actor refused and preferred to fly on a regular flight, economy class!

A couple of hours later he gave some still shots on a set created in the banquet hall of a hotel in Bhuj. Tourism officials said all the shoots have been scripted and conceptualised by Piyush Pandey, executive chairman & national creative director , Ogilvy & Mather India. Only Bachchan will feature in all these shots.

At the Bhuj airport when Bachchan, dressed in a plain white kurta-pyjama walked out, a huge crowd stood to greet him and he waved and shook hands with them.

Amitabh has a very hectic schedule ahead and will be shooting in Dordo , the White Rann of Kutch, named thus after the salt deposits, at 4 am on Saturday. He will also shoot at Vijayvilas palace in Mandvi. After sessions in Mandvi and Dholavira in Kutch, he will head for Gir.
