The controversy surrounding Nanakshahi calendar, which created divisions among Sikhs in recent past, deepened further as Dal Khalsa denounced the decisions of Akal Takht and SGPC to follow the amended version of the calendar.
SGPC is all set to release the amended version of the Nanakshahi calendar on March 14. However, at a parallel show, the Dal Khalsa said it will release its version as per original calender adopted in 2003. At a public function at Hoshiarpur, the radical Sikh group will release the calendar dedicated to Sikh warrior Baba Baghel Singh, rejecting the amended version.
Dal Khalsa spokesperson Kanwarpal Singh rued that the SGPC has killed the letter and spirit of Nanakshahi calendar by mixing it with Bikrami calendar, which had its roots in Hinduism.
