Konkona Sen dislikes media attention

Mumbai : The dusky beauty Konkona Sen Sharma, who got critical acclaim for her role in 'Wake Up Sid' opposite Ranbir Kapoor, is all set to rule the silver screen this year.

The talented and versatile star has her hands full with films like 'Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge' opposite Ajay Devgan, 'Right Yaa Wrong', 'Mirch', and a small movie with Mira Nair.

But the actor is very reticent about her personal life and has made it very clear in a recent interview that she does not like media's interference in her life.

She says, "I am here to do films, and it's my profession. My personal life is different from my professional career, and so, I don't like people talking about it."

"I am someone who is confident about herself and quite secure. I don't listen to anyone, and the more people tell me to do this and that, the more I ignore them and do the same," she adds.

Konkona, who has till now mostly been seen in a serious or experimental role, will be dishing out only comedy films this year. But she seriously wants to be cast in a love story.

She is open to all sorts of films but avoids parallel cinema. She says, "People have this notion that anything that is parallel cinema will be good. They come to me with scripts and expect me to take up anything that they label as non-commercial."

"While I fully support the cause of small-budget films and experimental ideas, I can't do any generic role. I need something to excite me," she adds.

The buzz is that Konkona is a role model for TV actor Shubhangi Atre--known for her role as the leading lady in Star Plus's popular soap 'Kasturi'.

"I really like the kind of roles that Konkona Sen does or even Nandita Das for that matter. I am more into art movies and offbeat films.

"Films like 'Rudaali', 'Dasvidaniya', 'Wake Up Sid' and 'Paa' are more like my taste. Even though these were commercial films, there was something in these that touched the heart," Atre says.
