Security tightened in Punjab due to Republic Day

CHANDIGARH : In view of Republic Day, the security has been beefed up in all districts of Punjab and Union Territoy of Chandigarh.

Punjab police spokesman said that about 7000 policemen have been deployed round the clock especailly in border districts of state. The government has already sounded a red alert all over the state. The police checking vehicles and patrolling roung the clock.

A report from Amritsar said that Security has also been beefed up at all entry and exit points, including Rajasansi International Airport, railway stations and bus stands in the three districts and frisking has been made mandatory.

The Special Branch of the state police has been asked to monitor all vulnerable points. The police was also keeping vigil on history sheeters, particulary smugglers.

The state level Republic Day function of Punjab would be held at Fatehgarh Sahib. where Governor Shiv Raj Patil would unfurl the national flag. This would be first time that Patil would be presiding over a national function after becoming Governor of Punjab.

Parkash Singh Badal, Chief Minister Punjab would unfurl the flag at Ludhiana,. Sukhbir Singh Badal, Deputy Chief Minister, Punjab would unfurl the flag at Amritsar where as Nirmal Singh Kahlon, Speaker Punjab Vidhan Sabha would unfurl the flag at Patiala.
