Members of the Sikh community in the Tri-Cities have purchased a parcel of land in Pasco as the site of a future temple.
The parcel is a little over three acres and is at 7505 W. Court St., said Ajit Paul Singh of Kennewick, a member of the community.
There\'s a house on the land that\'s currently occupied, but the resident will be moving out, Singh said.
The Sikh community is planning to be in its new home by mid-April to celebrate Vasakhi, an Indian celebration that\'s similar to New Year\'s and that holds special meaning in the Sikh faith.
The land will make a big difference to members of the community because they\'ve been meeting for prayers and other gatherings in each other\'s homes because they didn\'t have a place of their own, Singh said.
Members aren\'t yet sure whether they\'ll keep the existing house at the site or build a temple from scratch.
The Gurdwara will be called Gurdwara Guru Nanak Parkash. There are about 35 Sikh families in the Tri-Cities.
Singh said the deal on the land was closed at the beginning of the month.
