DU announces to hike OBC quota to 18%

The Delhi University (DU) Friday announced to hike the Other Backward Classes (OBC) quota for all courses from currently 9% to 18% following the directions of Supreme Court and Human Resource & Development ministry.

The revised reservation will be applied from the next academic session scheduled to begin from July 1, 2009.

"From last year\'s 9% OBC quota reservation, this year the reservation will be increased to 18%," said S K Vij, dean of students' welfare at a press conference here.

He also announced to raise another 9% reservation for OBC students to meet the directions of SC and HR Ministry to maintain 27% quota of total seats from next year.

Moreover, Vij also announced that the total numbers of seats in all courses would be increased to meet the target.

"DU has decided to increase the number of seats in each course by 36%. That will bring up the total number of seats from 42,000 to 49,000," he said.

The admission process in DU will kick off from June 1 with the availability and submission of forms. The first cut off list will be announced on June 25.
