Rahul visits Golden Temple ahead of LS polls

Chandigarh: A recital of Gurbani at the Golden Temple and a meal at the communal kitchen - that\'s how the Congress\' heir-apparent, Rahul Gandhi, began his three-day visit to Punjab. His brief was clear - to boost the membership of the Youth Congress ahead of the Lok Sabha polls.Rahul\'s visit to the Golden temple was symbolic. Once his grandmother ordered commando action on terrorists holed up here, a move that cost her the support of the Sikhs and even her life. Rahul\'s intention is to regain confidence of the community.Rahul Gandhi said, \"I will tour all of Punjab and meet all the people to know their problems.\"Rahul will hold road shows in various districts. The ruling Shiromani Akali Dal, however, has sought to downplay Rahul\'s visit.SAD President Sukhbir Singh Badal said, \"We don\'t know much about where he is touring and what he is doing in Punjab.\"But the worry is evident in the party which projects itself as the mouthpiece of Sikhs.Rahul\'s visit could rally forces for the Congress in a state where 11 of 13 Lok Sabha seats are occupied by the Akalis. Perhaps Rahul knows that he will play a key part in the political match to bag votes.
