Cong demands inquiry into govt inaction

AHMEDABAD: The Gujarat Congress has demanded the setting up of an inquiry commission to probe allegations of inaction by Chief Minister Narendra Modi in preventing the serial blasts that left 57 dead in Ahmedabad on July 26. Party chief spokesperson Arjun Modhvadia said that the Intelligence Bureau had tipped off Gujarat and Rajasthan governments on March 27 this year about possible blasts in Ahmedabad and Jaipur. This tip-off was based on the statements of SIMI\'s Safdar Nagori and Ameel Pervez. Modhvadia claimed that the Gujarat government did not act despite having specific information. On the contrary, Modicontinued to make statements, challenging the terrorists, he said. Modhvadia pointed out that Modi and LK Advani pressed for the implementation of GujCOC in the state soon after the blasts. \"The chief minister did not act because he wanted terrorists to attack the state so that he could ask for implementation of GujCOC, which the Centre is not keen on,\" said Modhvadia. He claimed that both Nagori and Pervez had named around 15 accused in their statements, who have all been arrested for their involvement in the Ahmedabad and Jaipur blasts. \"Had the Gujarat government acted soon after the March tip off, these blasts could have been averted. Gujarat and internal security was the responsibility of the state,\" he said. Home ministry denies Modi\'s allegation: Union home ministry on Monday came out with a statement denying Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi\'s allegation that home minister Shivraj Patil was \"casual\" in his approach when he went to alert him about a possible terror attack in the capital. The home minister was targeted by Modi in Pune on Sunday, saying Patil was more keen on having his lunch rather than getting information about a possible strike in Delhi.
